The Backpackers can sleep 52 guests in 6 rooms of which 2 are private dormitories, 1 female dormitory and the remaining 3 rooms are mixed dorms. All the dormitories sleep 10 guests per room.
St Francis Bay Backpackers is situated in the heart of St Francis. A few minutes’ walk will take you to beach, shopping centres, restaurants, bars, tennis and squash courts and golf courses. Our small village also is home to canals, a river, fishing and yacht harbor and Port.

The coastline of St Francis and neighbouring Cape St Francis (+- 5km) is full of small rocky bays and the sea is usually very clear and clean, so excellent for fishing, diving and snorkeling.

Start your day with a healthy breakfast which can be ordered at the coffee shop downstairs (included in some of the packages).

After a salty ocean experience, there will be free time to explore the village and Cape St Francis. On one of the days you can choose between an interesting scenic GUIDED WALK (Harbour, Port & Shark Point) or an OCEAN CRUISE.
If you have had your surf lessons for the day and are wanting to spend more time surfing, surfboard and wetsuit rentals are available from the Reception Office at an addition cost.
EVENING YOGA (depending on schedule)
BEER TASTING at St Francis Brewing Company or SNOOKER / POOL in the Communal Lounge.
St Francis Bay Surf Yoga South Africa Programme
Yoga is the practice of combining body, mind and breath. You will enjoy practicing yoga at our local studio, which is a short 5 minute walk from the Backpackers. There are a variety of styles through a diverse team of local Yogis. You will be provided with mats and props so you just need to bring comfortable clothes.
Our coastline is excellent for surfing as it has an amazing variety of breaks and surf-spots that work in different conditions, wind directions and swell. Long sandy beaches, shallow sand bars stretching out +- 150 meters from the shore-break to back-line and several point breaks give beginners, intermediate, advanced, longboarders and SUP surfers several breaks to choose from, depending on ability. Our packages are designed for all surfers, from beginners to advanced so trips can be individually adapted to your needs. As there are so many different breaks to choose from, the local St Francis Bay surf instructor is able to find a suitable and safe surfing environment and wave to cater for your level of surfing.
St Francis Bay is also home to the world renowned surf spot “Bruce’s Beauties” so for the advanced surfers, this is the perfect opportunity to come and surf “Bruce’s”.
The summer swell size averages from 2 – 4 foot and increases in size during winter to 4 – 6 foot.
GUIDED WALK – HARBOUR AND SHARK POINT
During this 1.5 hour guided walk, you will hear about the only private harbour in South Africa, our local Chokka (Calamari) industry and more. Enjoy the scenic walk to Shark Point where you can see ancient Bushmen midden’s and why this part of the coastline is called Shark Point.
EDUCATIONAL OCEAN CRUISE
This 1 hour educational / leisure ocean cruise is packed with interesting information about the history of the area, the fishing industry, working harbor, the sea life as well as the dynamics of the bay. There are frequent sightings of otters, seals, penguins and other interesting ocean events. Don’t miss a chance to cruise by “Bruce’s Beauties”, “Shark Point”, and “Otters Landing”. Connect with Harry and his love for the ocean and learn more about the history of this fascinating area.
Things to do (Optional):
During your free time, there are so many different activities to do in St Francis Bay t give you a well-rounded experience and adventure of the beautiful surrounds. Visits to the penguin sanctuary at Cape St Francis, horse-riding along the beach, guided hikes up the mountain; canal cruises and having sundowners at Sunset Rock are just some of those activities.

Lunch and Dinner are all self-catered. St Francis Bay Backpackers offers a communal kitchen and has ample fridge space for groceries. The kitchen is fully equipped and stocked with all the necessary cooking utensils, gas stove, microwave, kettle and crockery.
We are situated right above the Brewery, a Coffee Shop and Pizza@167 where great food is served, and the Spar and other restaurants are all within a few minutes walk of the Backpackers.
